The Sheriff is obligated to keep peace within the County: he must pursue all felons, execute all writs, warrants, and other process issues from Court. The Sheriff shall perform all Statutory duties as required by law; and shall provide assistance to the Attorney General, the States Attorney, and the County as necessary. Further, by contract, the Minnehaha County Sheriff's Office provides law enforcement services to several small towns within the County.
Within the Public Safety Building and Community Corrections Center, the Sheriff's Office is responsible for administration of detention facilities for municipal, state, and federal prisoners both for Minnehaha County and several of the surrounding counties as provided by contract.
On behalf of the County, the Sheriff's Office is responsible for providing security to the S.D. Air National Guard as set forth in an annual contract.
