Volunteers in Police Services

The Minnehaha County Sheriff's Office currently utilizes dedicated volunteers for a wide variety of services within the department. Volunteers with our department provide a tremendous public service which improves the efficiency and effectiveness of our overall responsibility to protect the public. In response to President Bush's call for additional volunteers under the USA Freedom Corps, our Sheriff's Office is looking for additional volunteers who have a commitment to providing support to our operations. We plan to expand not only the number of volunteers, but also the number of duties that volunteers will be able to help us with. This increased use of volunteers allows our Deputies or other Sheriff's Office Officers to concentrate their efforts on their primary public safety and security functions. Some examples of volunteer job assignments that may be available include:

Fleet maintenance volunteer for shuttling patrol cars for service, brake jobs, tire changes, etc.
Depending on the number of volunteers and their areas of interest, we may later provide additional volunteer opportunities. As you can see, having volunteers assist in these areas can provide a tremendous level of service to our Sheriff's Office and to the residents of this County. If you have an interest in joining our volunteer network, and being a part of the USA Freedom Corps' Citizen Corps, contact us at 605-367-4300 or e-mail mmilstead@minnehahacounty.org
