1950s Wedding Dress
1950s Wedding Dress
The Siouxland Heritage Museums recently received a collection of clothing that belonged to a local Sioux Falls woman. Among the items donated was a stunning two piece satin dress that belonged to Mrs. Irene G. Schurman. She wore this dress to her wedding reception when she married Robert G. Schurman on Nov. 17, 1950. According to her daughters, Irene only wore the dress once. The dress doesn’t look that much different from how it looked on the day she bought it in the store. The color of the dress is a beautiful deep satin periwinkle blue. The top is buttoned down the front with a row of iridescent blue buttons. The A-line skirt has a tiny 24” waist even though the tag says it is a size 9. Overall, the dress is the picture of 1950s women’s fashion. To see more wedding fashions, stop in to the Let’s Get Hitched: The Road to Matrimony exhibit in the Old Courthouse Museum.
