The Art of Architecture: Selections From the Perkins, McWayne & McLaughlin Collection

In 1986 Earl McLaughlin donated to the Siouxland Heritage Museums drawings for 490 projects designed by the firm in its almost 60 years in practice. These drawings are evidence of men educated at a time when the architecture curriculum in the United States was strongly influenced by the Beaux-Arts style and training which originated in Paris. The Beaux-Arts school stressed fast conceptual sketches, followed by highly-finished perspective presentation drawings which emphasized artistic appearance. This selection of drawings from the Perkins, McWayne & McLaughlin collections truly shows how The Art of Architecture was expressed in South Dakota.
