hoof and pin

Upper Missouri Region

The Hoof and Pin game is fashioned from deer foot bones and the skewer from a bison rib. To play, the skewer is held in one hand and the other hand holds the bones against the throwing elbow. Next the bones are released with a thrust of the skewer as the player attempts to catch the first bone. Catching the center of a bone is five points or ten points for a side hole. If the first bone is missed, the other team gets a try. If the bone is caught, the next bones are caught in sequence until all bones have been caught.

Shinny Stick with Ball

Shinny is played with two teams attempting to hit aShinny Stick with Ball bison wool-filled ball between goal posts. At each end of a 50-yard field, two poles are placed about 10 feet apart. Play starts in the center of the field. Each team uses ash sticks to move the ball to their goal.
