Rosebud Sioux - A Lakota People in Transition arrives January 4, 2007 at 5:30 pm! For eight weeks, this exhibit will present over 100 images of the Sicangu Lakota people of the Rosebud Sioux Tribe. Created by Swedish photo historian Claes Jacobson and Curator Eva Anderson, this exhibit is a tribute to the Lakota people, their history, and their culture.
John Anderson´s photographs, taken between 1885 and 1930, are the base of the exhibit, while a set of contemporary photographs of Lakota people on the Rosebud reservation are juxtaposed with the historic images. Through these photographs, the concept of interrelationship of time and people shows that the Sicangu Lakota are not a culture frozen in time. Many tribal members on the Rosebud reservation and present-day descendants have, during the past two decades, shared their knowledge of John Anderson and their Lakota history and culture. They have contributed with oral history, documents and photographs.
Twenty years have passed since the exhibit debuted in photographer John Anderson´s birthplace in Sweden. It has toured 91 museums in Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Norway, Germany, Switzerland, and England, with over 1.5 million visitors to date.
