Stairway Mural Restoration

The Old Courthouse Museum is one of our largest artifacts, and work is never ending. From new slate on the roof to restoring historic stained-glass windows, our goal is to keep this 136-year-old building as original as possible. This October, three conservators from the Wester Center for the Conservation of Fine Arts in Colorado spent several days working on the large murals in the Courthouse main staircase. Their work included in-painting open areas created by a prior plaster repair project and securing areas to prevent future loss to the mural. Over the years, the museums have worked with conservators from different organizations to ensure that visitors are able to enjoy the building for years to come. Such projects are funded through the Siouxland Heritage Museums’ Endowment and the Siouxland Heritage Museums Alliance. If you would like to help the museums continue this wonderful work, please consider joining the Siouxland Heritage Museums Alliance or donating to the Museums’ Endowment Fund.
