The Rocky Mountain Oysters
Eclectic Newgrass Band
The Rocky Mountain Oysters are a five member band from Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Starting as a duo with Charley Smith and Tom Peterson in 1970, the band continued to evolve over the years and performed regularly as a five-piece into the mid-1980s.
Around 1979, the Rocky Mountain Oysters started to really cut loose. Mixed with original songs, international flavorings of celtic, bluegrass, classical, folk, jazz, pop, and reggae, the Oysters simmered on ballads only to turn to a full boil on a rollicking fiddle tune or a Springsteen cover.
The last Rocky Mountain Oyster reunion was in 1995 at the Sioux River Folk Festival in Canton, SD. They are looking forward to reunite at the same festival in 2017.
