1940s Porch Glider
Summer is finally here, and we are all looking forward to spending time outside in the sun. This month’s featured artifact is a Porch Glider from the Burns/Rieper Collection. This outdoor furniture piece was sold during the 1930s and 1940s by Sears in Sioux Falls. With its painted metal frame, canvas cushions, and suspended bars and springs to allow for smooth motion and comfort, this piece would be a nice addition for any back yard then or now. The Burns Family of Sioux Falls purchased this particular piece in the 1940s, and as you can see in the picture, the kids enjoyed the “Dog Days” of summer in style.
